Alcohol Detox

It is easy to tell an alcoholic to “just stop drinking”, but a lot harder for him or her to do it. Sudden withdrawal of alcohol can be physically dangerous in many cases and is, almost always, difficult and uncomfortable.

The road to long-term sobriety inevitably starts with a properly planned alcohol detox programme, preferably carried out in a specialist alcohol treatment centre. At Rehab Advisor we can help you find the right alcohol detox centre for you, so call us now on 0800 078 7757, we have someone waiting for you call.

Alcohol Detox

Research has shown that a medically based in-patient alcohol detox at an approved alcohol treatment centre is the safest, and most effective, method to begin a process of rehabilitation from the effects of alcoholism. The detox programmes at our centres are individually tailored to the requirements of each patient. Careful assessment of the general health of the patient along with an expert analysis of their drinking habits enables medical staff to identify the most suitable medication to prescribe and to decide on the optimum period of alcohol detox. read more..

Home Detox

Although in most cases we would recommend that a medically supervised detox from drugs or alcohol is undertaken at a regulated and approved facility we also appreciate that sometimes this is not always possible. In those cases we can arrange for a home based detox under medical supervision to be provided subject to suitability.

The period of detox treatment will usually last between one and two weeks depending on the substance involved and the extent of the previous use. A doctor or a fully qualified prescribing nurse can make a medical assessment and prescribe the appropriate medication for a safe detox . There will be certain side-effects of the withdrawal but the medication is designed to eliminate the risk of fits or seizures and to alleviate the most unpleasant of these. Providing medication to help the patient sleep along with sedatives in the early stage of the detox process also helps to deal with some of the problems that often arise during this time.
