We, at Rehab Advisor, firmly believe in the great benefits of a medically supervised detox and a period of rehab in a dedicated alcohol and drug treatment centre. We also realise that for many people with addiction problems the work does not end for them when they leave their rehab. They may face the same kind of problems or experience similar triggers to those that caused them difficulties in the past. All of the treatment centres that we use are well aware of this and their programme is tailored to anticipate these situations, however they are not infallible.
If an addicted person has a relatively short stay in a drug or alcohol rehab a further period of counselling is often recommended. For many reasons it is not always possible for this counselling to be carried out at the original treatment centre and for this reason we have in place a network of qualified and accredited counsellors throughout the country available to provide this service.
Many people on leaving treatment find that although counselling may no longer be needed they miss the guidance and general advice they had become used to receiving about living a drug and alcohol free life. Many treatment centres will have introduced their clients to the fellowships of Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous or Cocaine Anonymous. These 12 step programmes are of enormous help to a great many people and our mentors do not claim to take their place. However sometimes something more is required and we can provide an experienced mentor to provide that extra little help, either in person or on the telephone, on a regular or an occasional basis. This can exclude providing a travel companion at times when recovery alone can be a daunting prospect
